President’s Update 8/30/23
Hi All,
I attended my first TDC board meeting Monday evening. A few updates related to Studios@:
The staff welcomed Kasia Bunofsky as the new Curatorial Assistant. Kasia comes from Drexel and getting a double bachelors in Art History and Arts Managements. She has curated several exhibitions for the Drexel collection and has exhibition installation experience. She will take on the administrative and logistics of exhibitions. She started August 28th.
On August 28th, The Delaware Contemporary welcomed a guest for the next year. Hikmatullah Kharoti is an international artist in residence from Afghanistan through a program called the Artist Protection Fund. https://www.iie.org/programs/artist-protection-fund/about/. He will be in studio 2J.2 and also taking classes at the University of DE. Once they are settled in, Leslie and I are planning a social event for the studio artists to meet Hikmatullah.
On September 1st the next cohort of ARC (Artist Residency Cohort) will move into the studios. This year we are offering each of the four residents a space in Graham’s old studio. The four will share that space through the end of May 2024 when their cumulative exhibition opens in our Bieber Ham gallery.
Exhibition turnover for the fall season “Escape” will start August 28th and run through the week after Labor Day with an opening on September 8th. Studios@ will have Open Studios in conjunction with the exhibition opening.
On Friday, October 13th the museum is holding an event called Freaky Friday. It will be a costume contest, a pumpkin carving contest, mystery tours, and a German-style beer garden. It is a small fundraiser we are trying in place of the art run.
The replacement sign is up and on the front of our building. It is above the entrance. Take a look the next time you enter the front door.
Several board members expressed interest in meeting studio artists and seeing our spaces. Leslie suggested we host the board members for a tour of the studios early on October 21 when we have the Studio Open House. I'd like to take a poll to find out how many artists would be interested and available to meet the board at 9 am on October 21. Please respond to this poll by September 13. https://www.menti.com/alvqp5g8nh5o
Let me know if you have any questions!
