Studio@ Updates

1/14/25

Upcoming items for your calendar:

Friday, 2/7, 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm - First Friday Open Studios - Please let me know by 1/31 if you plan to be open

Saturday, 2/22**, 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm - Saturday, Open House - artists are expected to be open for 3 hours. The suggestion is to either be open from 12-3pm or 1-4pm so that we have coverage at the beginning and end of the event. Feel free to stay the full 4 hours if you wish. Morgan has received positive feedback from visitors who have engaged with artists doing hands-on activities while visiting studios. We realize doing a hands-on activity is not conducive nor of interest to everyone and by no means is this an expectation. We just wanted to share the feedback. The museum will promote the event and will provide light snacks and beverages.
**The spreadsheet by the elevator had the wrong date and will be updated.

Please let me know by 1/31 if you plan to be open and when you will arrive

Tuesday, 3/4, 6 pm - 7:30 pm - Yearly planning meeting, Hatch scheduling, and socializing. Please bring a snack or beverage to share. We will collect artist studio dues. Please bring $20 cash or check.

Studio leadership changeover:

Caroline Chen and I have served in our roles as VP and President of the Studios@ since August of 2023. These positions typically have a 2-year commitment and we are looking for volunteers to take over the positions starting in August of 2025. Both jobs get a discount on monthly rent as compensation for time. Please email me if you are interested in volunteering or if you have any questions about what is involved.

VP - 15% rent discount - smooth running and coordination of the Hatch calendar and gallery.

President - 20% rent discount - semi-regular communication with Leslie and Morgan, emails with studio artists, quarterly board meetings, annual board retreat, general creative problem solving.

Follow-up from Fall Saturday Open House:

After reviewing the survey results and discussing with Leslie, Morgan, Kasia, and Caroline C., the structure for the fall curator networking event is being revamped. More information will be available about this soon.

Event Attendance:

  • 23 studio artists + artists in residence participated

  • 17 attendees who pre-registered. A few folks from the general public. This was a slight increase from attendance in Fall 2023.

Survey Response:

18 Artist Survey Responses – 17 participating artists, 1 artist who was not able to be open during the event.

94.4% of the respondents liked the concept of an invite only event focused on curators

·      Value-add for artists to be able to connect with curators

·      Positive for the artists and the museum. Also provides an opportunity for the curators to network.

·      Different feel than general public audience, more opportunity for professional development

58.8% of respondents wanted more communication and participation prior to the event

Please let me know if you have any questions. Happy New Year!
