President’s Update 4/4/23

Hello and Happy 4th!

For those who weren't able to attend the meeting with Leslie earlier this summer, here is the recording. A high-level summary of the conversation and updates follow.

Open Studios and Open House

Saturday, Oct 21, Fall Open Studios (There was general consensus amongst attendees to keep the open studios separate from the fall 5K run and Halloween activities that the museum is hosting later in October.)

Saturday, Feb 10, Spring Open Studios paired with Museum Open House

Hatch Exhibitions

Artists are welcome to host their own artist talk and/or separate reception for their show in the Hatch, preferably on Sunday when the museum is open. In order to have the information included on the exhibition program guide, details need to be submitted 2 weeks before the exhibition opens, (mid-August for Fall exhibition series, etc.)

Art on Common Walls

In the past, Leslie or Chase has curated the common wall exhibition. This year, the West Chester University intern will be involved in the process. The Summer intern is no longer available and the Fall intern starts mid-Sept so Leslie hopes to get work hung by Sept 25 for the Palette-to-Palette event and also for the Oct open house. Date for work to be submitted for consideration needs to be confirmed, plan on mid to late August.

Leslie hopes to formalize the loan of work for the common spaces with loan agreements so there is record of what is in the museum’s care and managing the inventory.

Intern will also be involved in Open Studios programming to help drive traffic upstairs.

Riverfront Bakery Installations

The Bakery has renewed their agreement to showcase art by Studio@ artists for another year. Lauren Peters will continue to manage this opportunity with the help of the intern.

History of TDC Display on 2nd floor

Chase continues to work on this and Leslie hopes to have it up by September.

FOB Access between Studios@ door and lobby

Leslie explained the reasons for the change in FOB access with great transparency. The new policy is:  Studio artists who have upcoming or down-coming exhibitions in Hatch will have access. Here is the schedule: De-installing will have access Monday and Tuesday before the First Friday, and the installing will have access the Wednesday and Thursday. But as a reminder, the garage doors are shut when the museum is not open to the public (M-W, and R-S, 9-12). So, Caroline will still need to work with the artists to arrange to have the garage door open with Morgan or Chase in advance for install or deinstall.

For ticketed events in the Museum, studio artists need to enter through the front doors for check-in. If you want to visit staff during regular business hours, please contact them ahead of time.

Maintenance of bathroom and elevator:

Bathroom: A faucet for the leaking sink has been ordered as well as vanity lights to bright up the space. As soon as those arrive, they will be installed.

Carpet in elevator: Has been replaced.

DEI training – Will continue to be a requirement. Going forward, the training can be done through another organization such as your employer, the Museum is also looking into alternative online options. Conversations in the galleries will continue to be offered (these cannot be recorded or attended on zoom).

Please watch the recording of the meeting for additional details. If you have questions after viewing, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Lisa Marie
